Deputy Social Minister Instructs All Centres to Develop Economically Impactful Programmes
Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Wamensos) Agus Jabo Priyono has instructed all centres and halls under the Ministry of Social Affairs to increase activities focused on the prosperity and empowerment of beneficiaries. The directive was conveyed during an inspection of services at Sentra Wyata Guna Bandung on Friday (24/4). “We hope that through the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation, all centres in Indonesia—we have 31 of them—will engage in prosperity-building activities for the centres through enterprises involving the beneficiaries,” he stated in a written remark on Friday (24/4/2026). Upon arriving at the location around 1:47 PM WIB, Agus Jabo began the visit by dialoguing with students from Bandung’s State Junior High School 9 (SRMP 9), located within the centre’s premises. He then inspected several entrepreneurial activities run by beneficiaries, ranging from cake production, agrotourism, chicken farming, to splash batik making. These activities involve both residential beneficiaries and participants in the Family Hope Programme (PKH) within the reach of Sentra Wyata Guna. During the occasion, Agus Jabo also conversed with one of the beneficiaries, Anisa, who runs a dry cake business. “So, how much income do you get per month?” Agus Jabo asked Anisa. “Approximately Rp 8 million, sir,” Anisa replied. Agus Jabo emphasised that productive activities providing social and economic impacts, like those run by Anisa, need to be strengthened and developed so that more beneficiaries can become independent and graduate from social assistance. “That’s what we call prospering; it’s prospering the centre, prospering the beneficiaries who have long needed it, so they can gain skills, become empowered, and independent,” he added. He also hopes that activities in the centres do not only focus on social rehabilitation but also promote income enhancement through empowerment programmes. “This will involve beneficiaries who have entered DTSEN around Bandung, who we will eventually graduate and involve here, in addition to the PM (residential) already in the centre itself,” he explained. Concluding the visit, Agus Jabo symbolically planted a longan tree as part of developing agrotourism at Sentra Wyata Guna. “This is the beginning, and we hope all centres in Indonesia under the Ministry of Social Affairs can start prosperity-building activities for the centres,” he concluded. The event was also attended by Director General of Social Rehabilitation Supomo, Head of Sentra Wyata Guna Bandung Feri Afrianto, and several related stakeholders.
