Deputy Regional Police Chief: Security situation in Maybrat and Tambrauw remains conducive
The Deputy Chief of the Southwest Papua Regional Police (Wakapolda), Brigadier General Pol. Semmy Ronny Thabaa, has confirmed that the security and public order (kamtibmas) situation in Maybrat Regency and Tambrauw Regency remains conducive, and therefore no additional police personnel are currently required in the two regions. “We assess that there is no need for personnel additions yet. The most important thing is to maintain the kamtibmas situation through good cooperation with all stakeholders and the community,” he said in Aimas, Sorong Regency, on Friday. According to him, the Southwest Papua Regional Police is prioritising a persuasive and collaborative approach in maintaining security stability by involving community leaders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and all stakeholders in each area. He explained that synergy between security forces, local government, and the community is a crucial factor in creating a safe and conducive situation. Semmy stated that, in general, the kamtibmas condition in the Southwest Papua region remains well-maintained thanks to solid cooperation between elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), local government, and the community. “Maintained security stability is an important asset in supporting the implementation of development, improving public services, economic growth, and community welfare,” he said. He also expressed appreciation to the Southwest Papua Provincial Government for its support of police duties, whether through coordination, programme synergy, or the development of facilities and infrastructure. “Local government support is very important to strengthen the implementation of police duties in maintaining security and providing services to the community,” he stated. He urged the public, particularly in Maybrat and Tambrauw Regencies, to continue to maintain unity, not be easily provoked by information of unverified truth, and to prioritise dialogue in resolving any issues. He also called on all elements of society to continue supporting the efforts of the security forces and the government in maintaining a safe and conducive situation to support development in Southwest Papua.
