Deputy Regent of Rejang Lebong Caught in KPK Anti-Corruption Operation, Cash Seized

Indonesia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) also apprehended the Deputy Regent of Rejang Lebong, Hendri, in a surprise anti-corruption operation conducted in the Bengkulu region on Monday 9 March evening.

“Yes, he was among those apprehended,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists at the Red and White Building on Tuesday 10 March.

Budi further revealed that a total of 13 individuals were arrested during the operation. They underwent initial questioning at Kepahiang Police Station and Bengkulu City Police Station.

“In connection with this operation conducted by the KPK team on 9 March, Monday evening, the team apprehended a total of 13 individuals who subsequently underwent initial questioning at both Kepahiang Police Station and Bengkulu City Police Station,” said Budi.

Of the 13 individuals, nine were flown to and arrived at KPK headquarters on Tuesday 10 March morning. These comprised the Regent, Deputy Regent, three civil servants from Rejang Lebong District government, and four private sector individuals.

“Of the nine individuals brought to Jakarta this morning, one is the regent, one is the deputy regent, and three others are civil servants from Rejang Lebong District government, and the remaining four are from the private sector,” he stated.

Cash secured as evidence

The KPK also secured various evidence including cash during this operation. However, Budi was unable to provide information regarding the amount of cash seized.

“The team, in addition to apprehending individuals, also secured evidence including documents, electronic records, and cash,” said Budi.

“We will announce the cash amount later,” he added.

The KPK conducted the operation in Bengkulu beginning Monday 9 March evening. Several offices within Rejang Lebong District government have been sealed. Cash of unspecified amount was confiscated by the KPK during the operation.

The anti-corruption agency has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of those apprehended.
