Deputy Police Chief Stresses Synergy with Labour to Protect Workers' Rights

Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri) Commissioner General Pol. Dedi Prasetyo has emphasised the importance of synergy between the police and labourers to protect workers’ rights. Speaking at the 2026 National Working Meeting of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPI) in Jakarta on Tuesday, Dedi asserted that workers are the foundation and primary driving force of the national economy. “Every achievement in economic growth and national development cannot be separated from the contributions of Indonesian workers,” he said in an official statement. Therefore, protecting workers’ rights and improving their welfare is an integral part of maintaining economic resilience and national stability. He noted that the police and labour share the same goal: creating a safe, productive, and just working environment. He assessed that the relationship between the police and labour has evolved beyond merely securing labour activities into a strategic partnership in advocating for workers’ welfare. The police are committed to continuing to stand with workers in fighting for their rights. “We maintain space for expressing aspirations so that it remains open, safe, orderly, and constructive, while also encouraging the resolution of various labour issues in a humane and fair manner,” Dedi said. The police have a dedicated Labour Desk. He detailed that during 2025, the desk resolved 35 criminal labour cases, 34 of which were handled through a restorative justice approach. In 2026, nine cases have been resolved so far, all through restorative justice mechanisms. Furthermore, the police have facilitated 4,216 workers affected by layoffs (PHK) to regain employment. These measures, he said, are tangible proof of the police’s presence in safeguarding workers’ rights while maintaining harmonious industrial relations. “When workers’ rights are protected, industrial relations are harmonious, and workers’ welfare improves, national stability and economic growth will become even stronger. For this reason, synergy between the police and labour must continue to be strengthened,” Dedi concluded.
