Deputy National Police Chief Meets Saudi Arabia's PSS to Strengthen Protection for Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims
Deputy National Police Chief Komjen Pol Dedi Prasetyo and his team conducted a visit and met with officials from the Presidency of State Security (PSS) of Saudi Arabia at the PSS Office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday (22/5). The meeting is part of an effort to strengthen Indonesia-Saudi Arabia coordination regarding the protection of citizens and the security of the Hajj pilgrimage preparations ahead of the 2026 peak season.
The Deputy National Police Chief was officially welcomed by the Deputy Director of Intelligence of the Saudi PSS, Major General Abdul Hamid, representing the leadership of the Saudi PSS. The meeting was held in a warm and respectful atmosphere, reflecting the close relationship between the two nations in supporting the protection of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims.
This visit is part of the effort to strengthen the synergy of the Indonesian National Police Hajj Task Force, formed in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. The task force aims to enhance supervision, prevention, and protection of the public from non-procedural Hajj practices, visa misuse, and various fraudulent methods that harm prospective pilgrims.
To date, the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force of the 2026 Hajj and Umrah Task Force of the Indonesian National Police has handled 11 Police Reports (LP) and 21 Information Reports (LI), resulting in 13 suspects. The number of victims has reached 320 people, with total community losses amounting to Rp10,025,000,000. Additionally, the Police Hajj Task Force has prevented the departure of 32 Indonesian citizens scheduled for non-procedural Hajj as a protective measure to ensure the public does not fall victim to illegal departure practices.
During the meeting, both parties discussed strengthening coordination regarding the protection of citizens, information exchange, and accelerating the handling of issues that Indonesian pilgrims may potentially face while in Saudi Arabia. The Head of Public Relations of the Indonesian National Police, Irjen Pol Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that protecting pilgrims requires strengthened synergy from before departure until the performance of worship in the Holy Land.
“The National Police, together with the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umress, continues to strengthen supervision domestically to prevent non-procedural departures and protect the public from fraudulent practices. At the same time, coordination with Saudi authorities is also being strengthened so that the protection of Indonesian pilgrims can be carried out comprehensively,” said the Head of Public Relations in an official statement.
He added that Indonesia, as the country with the largest number of Hajj pilgrims in the world, requires strong collaboration to ensure every citizen obtains certainty, security, and protection while performing their pilgrimage. “The protection of pilgrims is a shared responsibility. Therefore, strengthening coordination with Saudi authorities is a vital part of ensuring that the Indonesian people can perform their worship safely, orderly, and in accordance with regulations,” Johnny emphasised.
The Indonesian National Police reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening supervision and law enforcement against non-procedural Hajj practices domestically, while simultaneously increasing international coordination as part of its commitment to providing maximum protection for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims.
