Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Fajar Reza Ulhaq, visited Maitreyawira Private School in Dumai, Riau Province, and held an educational discussion with local primary and junior secondary school principals. “This working visit today is to convey the message that the government supports the sustainability of private schools as part of the pillar of quality national education. I appreciate this Maitreyawira school for instilling character education in the learning process,” said Deputy Minister Fajar in Dumai on Friday. He stated that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education encourages schools and teaching staff to create a high-quality educational ecosystem by becoming architects of learning in line with national education policy direction. Fajar assessed that the educational aspects in Dumai have improved well, though several areas still need encouragement to achieve superior quality and not fall behind other regions. He expressed hope that education in Dumai City can continue to be enhanced and that quality standards are maintained and developed to reach a superior level in Riau Province. Meanwhile, Dumai Mayor Paisal hoped that the Deputy Minister’s working visit to Dumai could provide a direct view of the development of state and private schools and encourage student achievement. He added that it could also boost the motivation of schools and educators through policy directives. “Private schools tend to show increasingly better progress in achievement, facilities, and other aspects compared to state schools, meaning education in Dumai continues to improve, and the government will encourage further advancement in the future,” said the mayor. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Pragna Mitra Matreya Foundation, Bujang Alwi, stated that his institution has been operating since 2020 and the building construction process has currently reached 40 per cent. The school building is targeted for completion by 2028. He added that the school teaches distinctive morals and ethics and has launched a movement encouraging the consumption of vegetables and fruit. For the learning process, the foundation has opened 8 classes for primary school, 6 classes for junior secondary school, and 6 classes for vocational secondary school. “Of course, we are very proud of this visit by the Deputy Minister because there is added value from the government. The Pragna Mitra Matreya Foundation has 62 teaching staff for all secondary education levels, and we are a general school,” said Bujang Alwi.
