Deputy Minister urges campuses to transform for greater impact
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Fauzan, has called on all universities across Indonesia to transform their implementation of the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) to deliver meaningful contributions to society.
“Universities today cannot simply produce graduates or academic publications. The Three Pillars of Higher Education should be implemented in an interconnected manner to deliver genuine impact on national development,” said Deputy Minister Fauzan in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday.
The Deputy Minister is encouraging universities to undertake governance transformation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education. He views strengthening and accelerating performance in education, research, and community service as key to university transformation efforts.
“The current higher education transformation policy direction promotes the concept of Impact Campuses — universities capable of connecting academic activities with community needs and the job market,” he said.
By 2025, Fauzan noted, approximately 68.95 per cent of Indonesia’s population will be of working age. Consequently, universities bear significant responsibility for developing superior human resources.
According to him, a great campus is not one that produces brilliant students from the outset, but rather one capable of transforming ordinary students into exceptional graduates.
The Deputy Minister also reminded observers of President Prabowo Subianto’s message that national progress depends heavily on educational quality. “We must reflect together on what the President has conveyed. Only through quality education can the Indonesian nation stand on its own feet,” said Deputy Minister Fauzan.
