Deputy Minister Stella Promotes Research-Based Utilisation of Natural Hydrogen

The development of natural hydrogen must be carried out in a measurable manner, based on research, and supported by an adequate regulatory framework. Through this approach, Indonesia’s potential can be developed to support national interests.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek), Stella Christie, is encouraging the utilisation of natural hydrogen in Indonesia through a measured research-based approach.

This was stated during a coordination meeting on the utilisation of natural hydrogen between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and the National Energy Council (DEN) recently.

“The development of natural hydrogen must be carried out in a measurable manner, based on research, and supported by an adequate regulatory framework. With the approach being made, Indonesia’s potential can be developed to support national interests,” said Deputy Minister Stella in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

These characteristics present an opportunity for Indonesia to become one of the world’s leading developers of natural hydrogen, which is formed through geological processes beneath the earth’s surface and has the potential to be used as a low-carbon energy source.

Deputy Minister Stella highlighted the role of universities and research institutions in strengthening research, including studies on geological characteristics, exploration methods, processing technologies, as well as safety and sustainability aspects of natural hydrogen utilisation.

She invited all relevant parties to collaborate in accelerating research, regulation, and the financing of natural hydrogen development.

Universities and research institutions play a vital role in strengthening scientific studies so that Indonesia can manage its natural hydrogen resource potential using appropriate processing technologies.
