Deputy Minister Stella Christie pushes for capacity building in contribution-based campuses
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Stella Christie affirmed that strengthening higher education institutions must be directed towards tangible contributions to national progress.
Speaking in Jakarta on Tuesday, Deputy Minister Stella emphasised that universities hold a strategic position in driving economic growth.
“Universities are the key to economic growth. So the 8 per cent economic growth targeted by the President is something whose key lies with us,” she said.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that each university needs to have a clear direction and strategy that suits its respective characteristics and strengths.
To that end, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has officially opened the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKPT) as an effort to strengthen the development and regeneration of university leadership in Indonesia.
AKPT participants will learn from the experiences of university leaders, academics, practitioners and strategic figures, such as former Minister of Education (2009-2014) Mohammad Nuh, Minister of National Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy, Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas RI) Ace Hasan Syadzily, Chair of the Forum of Boards of Trustees of State Universities with Legal Entity Status Mohamad Nasir, Rector of BINUS (2009-2023) Harjanto Prabowo, and Professor of Geopolitics and Islamic Business at ESSEC Business School, Cedomir Nestorovic.
Through AKPT, Kemdiktisaintek hopes to build an increasingly strong and sustainable higher education leadership ecosystem.
Ultimately, strengthened leadership is expected to drive Indonesian universities towards greater excellence and global competitiveness, while delivering real impact for society and national development.
