Deputy Minister says AI could create opportunities for new professions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Creative Economy Minister Irene Umar believes artificial intelligence (AI) technology will not eliminate jobs, but will open up opportunities for the birth of new professions.

“AI will not replace jobs, but AI will create new jobs that have never existed before,” Irene said at the launch of the Google AI Economic Impact Report in Jakarta on Thursday.

She cited the example of the prompt engineer profession, which in recent years has become increasingly in demand even though it does not require a university degree. Irene said the main skill of this profession is crafting clear instructions or prompts so that AI can perform tasks according to the user’s needs.

“If we do not know what we want, AI will not be able to produce the results we desire,” she said.

According to her, the economic impact of AI adoption cannot be achieved instantly, so it needs to be measured continuously so that the resulting business opportunities, jobs, and added value can be properly mapped.

Irene also stressed that Indonesian creative economy players should not only focus on the domestic market, but also target the global market, which has greater potential.

“So I want to challenge everyone here not just to see Indonesia as a market, but Indonesia as a creator, as a driving force, so that we can export what we have to the global market,” she said.
