Deputy Minister Reveals Indonesia Short of 498,000 Teachers, 1,000 in Karangasem
Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Fajar Riza Ul Haq will carry out teacher redistribution as a solution to the shortage of educators in Karangasem. Overall, Indonesia is still short of around 498,000 teaching personnel, while Karangasem is short of approximately 1,000 teachers. “The teacher shortage occurs throughout Indonesia, not just in Karangasem alone. One of the factors is the accumulation of teachers in some schools,” said Fajar during his visit to Karangasem on Wednesday (1/4/2024). According to Fajar, some schools have more teachers than others, while other schools are still short. This means the distribution of teachers is uneven. However, teacher redistribution can only be done within the scope of one district. As for redistribution between provinces, this is done while waiting for the full-time or part-time CPNS and PPPK appointment process. “We have been intensively coordinating with Kemenpan RB regarding the appointment of teaching personnel so that it continues to be increased, so that the teacher shortage can be resolved,” said Fajar. Meanwhile, the Head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora) of Karangasem, I Gusti Bagus Budiadnyana, did not deny that there is indeed still a shortage of teachers in Karangasem at present. Thus, the redistribution policy planned by the Ministry is considered quite good as a short-term solution. “With this policy, the equitable distribution of educators, especially in Karangasem, can soon be realised,” said Budiadnyana.
