Deputy Minister Otto calls for stronger legal framework in natural resource management
Deputy Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Otto Hasibuan has emphasised the need to strengthen governance and legal frameworks in harnessing Indonesia’s natural resource potential. He stated that natural wealth must be utilised optimally for public welfare and to support sustainable development. “Indonesia has extraordinary wealth,” Otto said, as confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. He also addressed the need to tackle various regional development challenges, including persistent flooding in several areas, noting that continuous mitigation, evaluation, and coordination between central and regional governments are required for more effective disaster management. During the occasion, Otto expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage directly with a prominent historical figure from Aceh. “I am very pleased to visit Aceh and hear various historical accounts firsthand from an Acehnese history maker. This is a very valuable experience in understanding the journey of a region that has contributed greatly to the Indonesian nation,” he said. The meeting also discussed strategic issues related to regional development, strengthening law and human rights, optimising natural resource potential, and efforts to maintain development sustainability in Aceh. The gathering served as a momentum to strengthen ties while discussing strategic issues concerning history, development, and legal reinforcement in Aceh.
