Deputy Minister of Tourism states DXI 2026 as momentum to dominate global adventure tourism
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa stated that Deep and Extreme Indonesia (DXI) 2026 represents a crucial momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a world-class adventure tourism destination, in line with the rising trend of nature-based experiential tourism.
“This is one of our steps to further expand networks and solidify Indonesia’s position as a global-level adventure tourism destination,” said Ni Luh in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
In her speech today, Ni Luh revealed that 75% of tourists visiting Indonesia consider natural tourism as the main attraction, according to Ministry of Tourism data.
This development is inseparable from changes in tourist behaviour post-COVID-19 pandemic, which increasingly prioritises meaningful experiences. Tourists now seek more personal, in-depth experiences that directly connect with nature, culture, and local communities. This trend drives growing interest in niche tourism such as diving, surfing, sailing, and hiking.
In supporting the growth of outdoor tourism, the Ministry of Tourism places aspects of security and safety as the top priority.
These efforts are expected to increase tourist confidence while driving the achievement of the target for foreign tourist visits of 16 to 17 million in 2026. In the previous year, Indonesia successfully recorded 15.4 million tourist visits.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono also conveyed that many of Indonesia’s flagship destinations have great potential but still face accessibility challenges.
“I am committed to encouraging the tourism sector, including marine tourism, to be supported by infrastructure readiness and inter-regional connectivity,” said AHY.
DXI 2026 will be held from 23–26 April 2026 at Hall B of JICC Jakarta, carrying the theme #DAREtoXPLORE: Waves of Collaboration. This theme invites all stakeholders to collaborate in developing the adventure tourism industry while exploring Indonesia’s natural wealth.
Over the four days of the event, DXI 2026 will also feature various interactive programmes such as Diving and Underwater Experience, Adventure and Outdoor Activities, Workshop and Sharing Session, and Family Kids Activities.
In addition, various competitions will enliven the event, including Underwater Mermaid Competition, Underwater Photo Competition, Underwater Dance Competition, Underwater Modelling Competition, and Adventure Shootout Competition.
The Ministry of Tourism is also actively participating through the presence of a 54-square-metre Wonderful Indonesia booth showcasing various national tourism industry players.
