Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, has assured that the government continues to anticipate potential layoffs resulting from the impact of escalating global geopolitics following the Middle East conflict. “We are immediately anticipating the occurrence of layoffs which could lead to increased unemployment in Indonesia,” said the Deputy Minister in Jakarta on Sunday. He emphasised this while attending the Patriot Move 2026 event organised by the Ministry of Transmigration, combined with a joint run with participants from the Patriot Expedition during Car Free Day at Bundaran HI, Jakarta. According to Afriansyah, current global conflicts are putting pressure on the economies of many countries, including Indonesia, so the government is taking anticipatory measures to maintain employment stability. Afriansyah affirmed that the government continues to monitor the impact of global geopolitical conditions on national employment to prevent an increase in layoffs across various national industrial sectors. “The current unemployment rate is equivalent to 7.4 million people, or about 4.3 per cent of Indonesia’s population,” he said. He explained that the government is currently strengthening various employment programs to help people continue to have job opportunities amidst ongoing and rapidly changing global economic challenges.
