Deputy Minister of Housing: Restoration of Sade Traditional Village to be More Beautiful and Safe

The Deputy Minister of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) of the Republic of Indonesia, Fahri Hamzah, stated that the government is proposing the restoration of residential buildings in the Sade Traditional Village, located in Rambitan Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, to make it more beautiful and safe following a recent fire.

“The fire that struck Sade Traditional Village has caused deep sorrow. The government recognises that this area holds great benefits for the community and the nation in showcasing the unique Sasak culture on Lombok Island,” said Fahri Hamzah after inspecting the site in Central Lombok on Wednesday.

He noted that, as such, the government proposes that Sade Traditional Village be restored in a form that is better, more comfortable, and more secure.

“The concept refers to the directives of President Prabowo Subianto, namely an Indonesia that is Beautiful, Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Grand,” he said.

He emphasised that a cultural area provides immense benefits for both the community and the nation by showcasing Indonesia’s cultural uniqueness, particularly that of the Sasak people on Lombok Island.

“We must restore it in a better form for the long term,” said Fahri.

He stated that the government proposes inter-ministerial meetings and collaboration with universities, scientists, and experts to redesign Sade Traditional Village.

“The goal is to ensure that the development does not only have a commercial impact, but also provides educational and knowledge-based benefits for both tourists and the local community,” Fahri remarked.

He added that the government remains responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure of Sade Traditional Village is durable and not easily susceptible to future fire disasters.

Various parties have already begun providing donations to build a museum, a mosque, and other facilities. With an attractive new design, the government hopes that Sade will become even more well-known both domestically and internationally.

“Because its original nature consists of wood, thatched roofs, and so on, we must still ensure it is protected so that it does not easily catch fire,” he said.

Fahking added that, moving forward, electrical installations will be installed as safely as possible, and PLN (the state electricity company) will also be requested to create specialised designs for cultural villages.

“This will simultaneously strengthen Lombok Island as a cultural tourism destination,” he concluded.
