Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Akhmad Wiyagus affirmed that the Consultative Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang) plays an important and strategic role in determining the direction of regional development. He made these remarks whilst attending the Musrenbang meeting for the Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) for Garut Regency in 2027 at the Garut Pavilion, West Java.

According to Wiyagus, Musrenbang serves as an important forum for all stakeholders to align various development programmes so that the resulting planning is more focused and effective.

“Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Musrenbang is important, very important and very strategic because in this forum all stakeholders will sharpen, then align, then also clarify programmes, and then also activities and sub-activities that are proposed, then agreed upon by various interests so that in 2027 this development planning is truly clear,” Wiyagus said in a written statement on Monday (16 March 2026).

Wiyagus explained that the quality of planning greatly determines the success of regional development. According to him, good planning can determine approximately 80 per cent of development objective achievement. He also assessed that the dynamics that emerge in the Musrenbang process are normal and indeed become an important part of the planning process that should take place.

On this occasion, Wiyagus also emphasised that regional heads bear significant responsibility in ensuring various government affairs run well, particularly those directly related to basic services for the community.

“Our hope is that Musrenbang can proceed in accordance with the Regent’s wishes as previously outlined in detail. This is actually a description of Garut Regency’s resilience which consists of various aspects of life and reflects the mandate of Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government regarding government affairs,” he said.

Wiyagus added that the success of regional development is also supported by various progress indicators that have been achieved. In this regard, he appreciated Garut Regency’s achievements, which are seen as having a sufficiently high level of regional competitiveness, even exceeding the national average competitive index. According to him, this achievement serves as important capital for the region to be increasingly confident in developing its potential.

Furthermore, Wiyagus also encouraged regional governments (Pemda) to be able to utilise various national strategic programmes prepared by the central government to strengthen regional development.

“The central government has actually thought about this through several national strategic programmes such as MBG, then Sekolah Rakyat, then also CKG (Free Health Check), and also how to increase regional income, and also multiply employment opportunities for the community,” he explained.

Wiyagus affirmed that these various programmes need to be optimally utilised by Pemda in order to provide tangible benefits for community welfare.

“This must truly be grasped by regional heads so that they can utilise these national strategic programmes pulled into Garut Regency,” he concluded.
