Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and IPDN Cadets in NTB Clean Senggigi Beach

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto, together with Lombok Barat Civil Servants and cadets of the Institute for Public Administration (IPDN) Regional NTB carried out a Beach Clean Movement at Senggigi Beach, Lombok, on Tuesday. Bima said the activity was conducted to support the national movement Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah) and stressed that the movement should not be mere ceremony or incidental activity, but must become part of the daily life of local government (Pemda). ‘There is one thing the President has entrusted to all regional heads and the Minister of Home Affairs: we must safeguard and monitor it—the ASRI, safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful movement—we must safeguard,’ he said in a briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday. He spoke at the Morning Parade and Beach Clean Movement at Senggigi Beach, West Lombok, NTB, on Tuesday. He continued that President Prabowo Subianto has given particular attention to tourist areas, including Lombok. The president emphasised the importance of keeping tourist destinations clean to give a good impression to visitors, including foreign tourists. Therefore, local governments are not to neglect waste problems and should manage them wisely. ‘During the morning run with the cadets, along the road we also saw piles of rubbish. That is our home task (PR). Although generally the beaches in Lombok, I think Senggigi are beautiful and clean. But it would be better if everyone moved, not just incidentally,’ he said. On that occasion, Bima also cited the Ciliwung Care Community in Bogor that actively cleans up waste. This community has been operating for more than a decade. He said these community-based movements are good practices that local governments should continue to foster. ‘There is the Ciliwung Care Community which cleans every day, even expanding, not only to rivers but also to parks. So we want this to become part of our collective awareness,’ Bima said. Furthermore, he hopes regional heads can popularise ASRI through programs that run from upstream to downstream. He said the efforts to maintain cleanliness are not enough simply by picking up rubbish, but also require direct involvement of regional heads to go to the field. He also entrusted a message to IPDN cadets attending the rally that in the future, when they become regional heads, they must stay close to the community and actively work on the ground. ‘My message to you is that you must continue to go to the field. Do not get trapped behind a desk, do not get trapped in ceremonial events. Go into the field, ensure your staff, your subordinates move together with the people, with residents to always keep clean,’ he said.
