Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus Leads Indonesia ASRI Movement in Kendari
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Akhmad Wiyagus personally led the Indonesia ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) Movement parade at Anjungan Teluk Kendari on Friday, 29 May 2026. The event served as a catalyst for promoting a clean living culture while ensuring economic stability in Southeast Sulawesi.
The Indonesia ASRI Movement is a national initiative launched by President Prabowo Subianto. Deputy Minister Wiyagus stressed that the programme’s primary focus is on integrated waste management and fostering a culture of mutual cooperation across all regions.
“The main focus of the movement is national waste management and building community mutual cooperation to encourage environmental cleanliness,” Wiyagus stated in his address.
He emphasised that waste management can no longer be overlooked, as it directly impacts public health, environmental comfort, and urban area quality. He called for cross-sector collaboration between local governments, TNI-Polri, community groups, and the wider public.
“No more working in isolation. All parties must act together to resolve waste issues comprehensively,” he stressed.
In addition to environmental issues, Wiyagus’s working visit to Kendari included a review of the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) at Kendari City Hall grounds. This move aims to ensure price stability and affordability of basic necessities amid global geopolitical challenges and climate change.
Wiyagus noted that despite dynamic global conditions, the national economy continued to show positive performance with a 5.61% growth in the first quarter of 2026. He specifically praised Kendari City Government for consistently implementing GPM 200 times.
“Food security is a key pillar of national economic stability. However, the most crucial aspect is ensuring the public can easily access affordable food supplies,” he added.
During the review, Wiyagus was accompanied by Southeast Sulawesi Deputy Governor Hugua. Both interacted with vendors selling SPHP rice, cooking oil, eggs, and local MSME products. Before concluding the agenda, Wiyagus also delivered aid to flood-affected residents.
Southeast Sulawesi Deputy Governor Hugua added that the Indonesia ASRI Movement should start at the household level. “The public must develop awareness in sorting and managing waste as a shared responsibility for a healthy environment,” he concluded. (RR/I-1)
