Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Strengthens Solidarity Through Chinese New Year Charity Drive
Jakarta – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar conducted a charity drive to strengthen solidarity by distributing aid to 1,000 orphans from various religious backgrounds, sourced from several charitable foundations and orphanages.
“The Nusantara Lunar New Year Harmony symbolises Indonesia’s tolerance, diversity, and unity. Especially as we celebrate Lunar New Year and Ramadan together. Hopefully, events like this can continue next year,” Irene stated in a press release received in Jakarta on Monday.
This charity initiative is part of the 2026 Lunar New Year Festival, which coincides with the Ramadan period.
The Deputy Minister further noted that the values of sharing and social responsibility are essential in strengthening faith and fostering relationships across communities.
In her remarks, Deputy Minister Irene also commended all parties who contributed to the successful organisation of the festival.
This charity drive has both social impact and serves to strengthen bonds amongst the community, she said.
The 1,000 orphans who participated came from the Rubath Nurul Alawiyyin Foundation, Al Kahfi Jakarta Pusat Foundation, Pondok Kasih Mandiri South Jakarta Foundation, Pondok Domba Foundation, and several other orphanages.
Meanwhile, Presidential Special Envoy for Tourism Zita Anjani stated that the charity action forms part of efforts to foster solidarity and empathy.
“I greatly appreciate the initiative of distributing aid to 1,000 orphans from various religions during the holy month of Ramadan as part of the Lunar New Year celebration. Certainly, activities like this should be increased next year,” said Zita Anjani.
In addition to the symbolic presentation of the “Sharing Light Donation,” the event was enlivened by motivational talks from Fahmi Auditya, a motivational session with Merry Riana, Special Staff to the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure on non-governmental cooperation and international relations, a shadow puppet theatre performance, breaking of the fast together, a special appearance by actress Na Willa, and other children’s entertainment.
The Ministry of Creative Economy emphasised the importance of social responsibility as a means of fostering shared comfort in celebrating Ramadan and Lunar New Year together. The “Sharing Light Donation” programme also conveyed a message of interfaith harmony that strengthens social solidarity and human relations.
