Deputy Minister of Basic Education Visits OSN Mathematics Preparation Class in Lamongan Primary School

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Fajar Riza Ul Haq visited a National Science Olympiad (OSN) mathematics preparation class at SD Muhammadiyah Lamongan (SD Muhla), Lamongan Regency, East Java Province. He said the students, from grades 4 and 5 who had just competed at the district level, were preparing for the next stage using IFP and other interactive teaching aids. “The children here are extraordinary. They are brave and many are fluent in English. This is important capital for producing the nation’s future leaders,” Fajar said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday. In addition to reviewing the integration of technology to support more interactive and enjoyable learning, he also observed the school’s character strengthening programme. Fajar motivated the students by encouraging them not to be afraid to try and not to worry about making mistakes while learning. “The important thing is that you have the courage to perform. Then do the work, follow the process. Whether it’s right or wrong is secondary,” he said. During interactions with the students, Fajar also stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between technology use and social life. He reminded the children not to become overly dependent on gadgets and social media. “Be diligent in worship, eager to learn, and active in society. Don’t just memorise it, but practise it in daily life,” he said. This character strengthening, he continued, aligns with the school’s proud academic achievements. Based on the Academic Ability Test (TKA) results, the school’s average score for Mathematics and Indonesian reached 90.6, with the highest Mathematics score recorded at 93.33 and Indonesian at 96.33. Fajar noted that, according to the school, these achievements result from a combination of learning that is adaptive to technological developments and consistent character habituation.
