Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Fajar Riza Ul Haq stated that the Academic Ability Test (TKA) serves not only to map competencies but also to sharpen children’s literacy and integrity abilities. He made this statement during his visit to inspect the implementation of the TKA at several schools in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. “The students feel the difference in the TKA question design, which uses fairly long stories, so they must read more carefully. This means we are training our students’ literacy abilities,” Fajar said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday. His visit captured the extent of students’ literacy abilities in addressing various types of questions that must be completed. “I encourage them to make reading books a routine, starting from one page a day so that literacy ability becomes a daily habit,” Fajar said. On that occasion, he also dialogued with several school community members who recounted their long preparations to ensure the success of the TKA implementation. Fajar appreciated the school’s integrity in maintaining the confidentiality of questions involving proctors and supervisors. He stated that besides the school community, the presence of proctors and supervisors also plays a role in building integrity from an early age.
