Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that Indonesia has a livestock surplus during this year’s Eid al-Adha celebrations, with 3.2 million sacrificial animals available, exceeding the national demand of 2.4 million. Speaking at a sacrificial event organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Indonesian Farmers’ Unity Association (HKTI) at the Nurul Iman Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday, Sudaryono said the national consumption requirement is around 2.4 million animals. ‘Thank God, Allah has bestowed His blessings and provisions upon our nation,’ he said. He added that the surplus indicates healthy national livestock supply conditions and reflects positive national development. Sudaryono stressed that negative perceptions of the country’s condition are inaccurate, as various indicators show positive progress. Despite global conflicts and uncertainties, Indonesia has maintained stable domestic conditions. ‘In times of widespread conflict, we remain in good condition, which we must all be grateful for,’ he said. He attributed this to government efforts under President Prabowo Subianto and the entire state apparatus. ‘The government, our President, ministers, cabinet and all state apparatus are working hard to ensure the country remains in good condition and, God willing, continues to do so,’ Sudaryono added. Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda, stated that the national availability of sacrificial animals is sufficient, safe, and controlled. ‘Total projected availability is 3.2 million animals, comprising 860,000 cattle, 34,000 buffaloes, 1.4 million goats, and 935,000 sheep,’ he said. National demand for sacrificial animals this year is estimated at around 2.4 million, leaving a surplus of approximately 800,000. Suganda added that the surplus demonstrates the national livestock sector’s capacity to meet public demand for Eid al-Adha without significant supply issues.
