Deputy Minister: Knowledge must be integrated with spiritual awareness

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Fauzan said universities must serve as spaces integrating scientific knowledge with spiritual awareness.

He made the remarks during the Eid al-Adha prayer series at the University of Indonesia’s Ukhuwah Islamiyah Mosque, monitored online via YouTube in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

“Universities must facilitate academic spaces where scientific knowledge is fully integrated with spiritual awareness,” said Deputy Minister Fauzan.

He stated that educational institutions, including higher education, play a vital and strategic role as crucibles for shaping transcendental character in students.

“In this era of disruption, technological advancements are progressing rapidly, but such progress often lacks moral maturity. Many people are losing their life direction, experiencing spiritual emptiness, and trapped in individualistic culture.”

Therefore, Fauzan added that educators must continually foster meaningful awareness in all academic activities.

He believes participatory education styles greatly respect learners as they are two-way, enlightening, democratic communication models imbued with moral discipline.
