Deputy Minister Isyana Urges Young Generation to Make Real Environmental and Social Impact
Generation Z (Gen Z), born between 1997 and 2012, represents one of Indonesia’s primary strengths in leveraging the demographic bonus. According to the 2025 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS), the 13-28 age group accounts for 24.93 per cent of Indonesia’s total population.
The Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development/Deputy Head of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, is encouraging the younger generation to be more than just beneficiaries of development, but to actively take roles that provide a tangible impact on their surroundings.
Isyana made these remarks during the Sash Ceremony for Genre Ambassadors, held as part of the 2026 National Genre Creativity Jamboree and Ambassador Appreciation (ADUJAKNAS) at the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN office in Jakarta on Monday, 21 September 2026.
According to Isyana, communication skills are a vital asset for Genre Ambassadors. These skills can be utilised to invite fellow teenagers to participate in positive activities, including providing support to groups facing various challenges.
“One way is by joining the Indonesia Genre Forum (Generasi Berloencana). The public speaking potential of Genre Ambassadors is crucial. They can engage with fellow teenagers and even go directly to disaster-stricken areas to assist in mental health recovery,” stated Deputy Minister Isyana in her statement, reported on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
She also reminded members of the Indonesia Genre Forum (FGI) not to focus solely on personal development. Teenagers possessing strong interpersonal and academic abilities are expected to reach out to other young people facing limitations and various hardships.
To this end, the 16th ADUJAKNAS was organised under the theme “Gen Z Impact: Real Action for Indonesia”. The event serves as a platform for peer educators and peer counsellors to share programmes and demonstrate real impact in addressing crucial adolescent issues, such as the prevention of child marriage, mental health, digital literacy, and the optimisation of the demographic bonus.
The event, which took place on 21-22 September 2026, also served as the momentum for the selection of the National Genre Ambassadors. The selected ambassadors are expected to serve as role models and agents of change for teenagers across Indonesia.
