Deputy Minister: Indonesia Has a Large Gaming User Base

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar has stated that the presence of global gaming companies in the Indonesian market brings opportunities for access to the game development ecosystem. She noted that Indonesia has a large gaming user base, especially for mobile games. However, from the developer side, many Indonesian creators are targeting the global PC and console markets. Irene emphasised that access to game development kits is crucial, as talent without adequate platforms and devices cannot develop optimally. She said that during her first meeting with Nintendo, she requested that the company enter Indonesia with its entire ecosystem. The government is also encouraging Nintendo’s presence to be accompanied by training so that local developers can understand how to enter the international console market.
