Deputy Minister: Indonesia ASRI Movement a Direct Order from President Prabowo
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto has affirmed that the Indonesia ASRI (Aman, Sehat, Resik, dan Indah) Movement is a direct directive from President Prabowo Subianto which must be realised concretely on the ground. “To that end, we are ensuring that the president’s orders are truly implemented in the field, so it is hoped that the Papua Provincial Government and the Jayapura City Government will continue to synergise and collaborate to ensure the Indonesia Asri Movement continues to run, not just as a slogan but is truly carried out sustainably,” he said during a mass community work event in Jayapura City on Monday. The collaborative clean-up focused on the Anafre River area, Taman Mandiri, Taman Imbi, and the park around the Gramedia bookstore area in North Jayapura District. The activity involved central government officials, the Papua Provincial Government, the Jayapura City Government, the TNI/Polri, civil servants (ASN), and the community as a form of shared commitment to creating a clean, healthy, and well-organised urban environment. According to Arya, handling the Anafre River area requires more than just routine cleaning; normalisation of the river through dredging sedimentation is also necessary to maintain the function of the water channels. “The importance of arranging green open spaces such as city parks. In addition to being cleaned regularly, parks in strategic locations need to be beautified and organised to become comfortable public spaces. These efforts can be funded through the regional budget (APBD) or through cooperation with the private sector,” he stated. He explained that the Indonesia ASRI Movement is not merely a ceremonial activity or a clean-up action, but a long-term movement to build a culture of environmental stewardship while beautifying the face of cities across Indonesia. “I appreciate the Papua Provincial Government and the Jayapura City Government for their initiative. Hopefully, this movement will continue and receive consistent supervision in the field,” he added. Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo said the joint clean-up activity serves as motivation for all levels of the regional government to increase their concern for city cleanliness. “Together with the Deputy Minister, we have carried out clean-up activities in several locations. This is encouragement from the central government for us to continue maintaining the cleanliness of Jayapura City,” he said. He explained that maintaining cleanliness has become part of the Jayapura City Government’s vision and mission, with clean-up activities now scheduled routinely and carried out twice a month across all districts, sub-districts, and villages. “All residents are invited to participate in maintaining environmental cleanliness by not littering,” he urged. He said a clean city is a beautiful and comfortable city for everyone to enjoy, and therefore he called on all residents of Jayapura City not to throw rubbish into gutters or drainage channels but to dispose of waste in its proper place. “We hope that through this activity, the spirit of collaboration between the central government, regional government, and the community will grow stronger in realising a clean, well-organised, and beautiful Jayapura City, as well as becoming an example of the implementation of the Indonesia Asri movement in Tanah Papua,” he concluded.
