Deputy Minister in Prabowo's Cabinet Visits Nusantara Capital City, Response is Unexpected

Deputy Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto visited the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan. Mugiyanto’s arrival was welcomed directly by the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono. Mugiyanto had the opportunity to see firsthand the condition of IKN, including the Central Government Core Area, the Palace Complex, and also planted a tree. After observing the condition of IKN, Mugiyanto asserted that IKN will become a city of the future and a model for the world. ‘IKN is already very friendly towards Human Rights. The roads and buildings are disability-friendly, and there are many green open spaces,’ he said. ‘This IKN is a city of the future that must become an example for the world,’ he added. The visit aimed to strengthen coordination and synergy between the Ministry of Human Rights and the IKN Authority in supporting the development of Nusantara with attention to human rights principles. During the meeting, both parties discussed various aspects of development in IKN, including the fulfilment of community rights, worker welfare, access to basic services, and efforts to ensure the benefits of development can be felt by the surrounding community. The visit also served as a platform for fostering relationships and exchanging views to support the realisation of an inclusive and welfare-oriented IKN development. ‘We took the time earlier to meet with community families in Sepaku, so earlier at the Sub-district Hall, accompanied by the Sub-district Head, we listened to their various aspirations,’ he said. Head of the IKN Authority Basuki Hadimuljono welcomed the idea and considered that strengthening the human rights perspective could be adopted in the development of Nusantara. ‘We welcome the input from the Ministry of Human Rights regarding strengthening the human rights perspective in IKN development. The idea of a Human Rights City is interesting to study further and could become one of the reinforcements for IKN,’ said Basuki. Basuki hopes the Ministry of Human Rights can support strengthening the implementation of human rights principles in IKN through concrete and measurable programmes. To this end, the IKN Authority is open to collaboration in formulating human rights strengthening programmes that can be integrated into the governance of Nusantara’s development. ‘Let us create the programme, in accordance with human rights indicators,’ concluded Basuki. The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere and produced a number of inputs that will serve as material for further coordination between the Ministry of Human Rights and the IKN Authority. Both parties agreed to continue strengthening collaboration to ensure the development of Nusantara proceeds inclusively, sustainably, and provides benefits for all levels of society.
