Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development aims to keep elderly empowered through Lansia Smart programme
Bintan (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development and Deputy Head of BKKBN Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka said she wants elderly residents in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands to remain empowered through the Lansia Smart programme.
According to her, the Lansia Smart programme, implemented at Bintan Happy Home Senior Citizen Empowerment School (SIDAYA), provides support for elderly families and seniors through multi-sectoral collaboration and care.
“This senior school adopts the Lansia Smart concept: Healthy, Independent, Active, Productive, and Dignified,” Isyana said during her visit to Bintan Happy Home in Gunung Kijang, Bintan Regency, on Monday.
The visit aimed to ensure SIDAYA’s implementation aligns with its goal of improving elderly quality of life through non-formal education, keeping them healthy, active, independent, productive, and happy.
She said the empowerment intervention follows principles including human rights, elderly rights as per legislation, gender equality, non-discrimination, equity, and intergenerational solidarity.
“This programme is one of the priority initiatives of the Ministry of Population and Family Development/BKKBN focused on elderly empowerment,” she added.
Isyana also detailed that the senior school offers interactive and engaging learning activities, including health education, senior exercise, psychological support, spiritual guidance, and skills and arts training.
“I hope SIDAYA benefits the elderly by keeping them healthy, happy, and positively contributing to family and community life, while supporting empowered seniors,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sumiatun (84), a resident of Bintan Happy Home, embodies the Lansia Smart spirit. The elderly woman, who has lived at the home for 14 years, remains active in all organised activities.
“Alhamdulillah, I am happy and comfortable at Bintan Happy Home as I receive attention, support, and opportunities to stay active with other seniors,” Sumiatun said.
