Deputy Minister Ensures Optimal Postpartum Family Planning Services in Denpasar

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) and Deputy Head of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, has confirmed that postpartum family planning (KB) services in Denpasar, Bali, are optimal ahead of the 2026 National Family Day (Harganas) commemoration on 29 June. Isyana stated this while also encouraging the optimisation of postpartum contraceptive use as an effort to realise quality families. “The government wants to ensure that every family is planned. By regulating pregnancy spacing, a mother can focus more on providing exclusive breastfeeding for six months to her baby and continue until the age of two,” Isyana said in an official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. Therefore, Isyana stated that her party continues to encourage the utilisation of postpartum contraceptive methods, particularly long-acting and permanent methods (MKJP), which are considered safe and effective for mothers. Isyana also appreciated the high level of public awareness in Denpasar City regarding the use of family planning services, especially postpartum contraceptive services. This was evident from the enthusiasm of acceptors who voluntarily came to obtain contraceptive services, including a mother who was just one day postpartum and immediately chose to use a contraceptive device to plan her next pregnancy. By strengthening postpartum family planning services supported by synergy between the central government, local governments, health facilities, and independent midwife practices, the Ministry of Population and Family Development hopes that public access to family planning services will increase. “This effort is expected to support the realisation of healthy, planned, and quality families as the foundation for human resource development towards Indonesia Emas 2045,” Isyana said. Meanwhile, the Head of the BKKBN Representative Office for Bali Province, Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih, assessed that strengthening postpartum family planning services is a strategic step in addressing population development challenges in Denpasar City. Based on the 2025 Family Data Collection (PK 25), the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of Denpasar City was recorded at 1.79, with a Modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (mCPR) achievement of 49.7 percent. “Optimising the role of health facilities and independent midwife practices needs to be continuously strengthened to increase family planning participation in Denpasar City,” said Ni Luh.
