The Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga)/Deputy Head of BKKBN, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, has encouraged the younger generation to play an active role and create a positive impact on their surrounding environments.

Opening the Generation Planning Ambassador (Genre) ceremony as part of the 2026 National Genre Creativity Jamboree (Adujaknas) in Jakarta on Monday (21/9), Isyana stated that the youth represent one of Indonesia’s primary strengths in leveraging the demographic bonus.

According to the 2025 Inter-Census Population Survey (SUPAS), the 13-28 age group accounts for 24.93 per cent of Indonesia’s total population. Consequently, Isyana urged the younger generation not merely to be beneficiaries of development, but to play a concrete role in advancing it.

“One way is by joining the Indonesia Genre Forum. The public speaking potential of Genre Ambassadors is a vital asset. They can communicate with fellow teenagers and can go directly to disaster-stricken areas to assist in mental health recovery,” the Deputy Minister stated in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

She also reminded members of the Indonesia Genre Forum (FGI) not to focus solely on self-development. Teenagers possessing strong interpersonal and academic skills are expected to reach out to other young people facing limitations and various challenges.

The Adujaknas 2_026 event also serves as a platform for peer educators and peer counsellors to share programmes and demonstrate real impact in addressing crucial adolescent issues, such as the prevention of child marriage, mental health, digital literacy, and the optimisation of the demographic bonus.

Isyana emphasised that the selected Genre Ambassadors are expected to serve as role models and agents of change for Indonesian youth, while also playing a role in strengthening the Youth Information and Counselling Centre (PIK R) programme.

Currently, PIK-R is also collaborating with one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes, namely the ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School).

Deputy Minister Isyana expressed hope that the Genre Ambassadors would not stop at achieving victory or representing their regions. They are expected to carry a spirit of change and act as drivers of progress within society.

“For the Genre Ambassadors from all provinces, the most important thing is to do your best, with a sense of responsibility, and to be able to inspire fellow Indonesian teenagers,” said Isyana.
