Deputy Minister Bima Arya Reminds of Efficiency in 30th Anniversary of Regional Autonomy
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) held a ceremony to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Regional Autonomy in 2026. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto served as the inspecting officer.
The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the Kemendagri office in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Monday (27/4/2026). It was attended by several regional heads, including East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno.
Bima Arya also delivered remarks during the ceremony. In his presentation, he conveyed guidance from President Prabowo Subianto regarding efficiency.
“In this commemoration of regional autonomy, allow me to convey the messages and directives often reminded by Mr President to continue delivering governance that is not only effective but also efficient,” stated Bima Arya.
“Efficiency is not just about savings. Efficiency is not just numbers reported to superiors. Efficiency is a new way to manage government, a transformation of our work culture,” he continued.
He also expressed appreciation to the regional heads who have consistently continued efforts to achieve efficiency in regional budgets despite all the challenges. He also asked the Kemendagri apparatus to continue being guardians, regulators, facilitators, accelerators, and motivators for all regional heads throughout Indonesia.
“We must ensure that our Asta Cita is escorted to the maximum, but the dreams of regional heads, the visions and missions of regional heads, still have space that we can align with Asta Cita,” explained Bima Arya.
He also stated that regional heads have shown figures of success achieved. Those figures, he said, relate to government performance, economic growth, poverty rates, open unemployment rates, and other figures.
“Of course, the Minister always advises not to stop at satisfaction figures. We must never ignore and become complacent with achievements. We must be honest that there are still many challenges ahead,” he revealed.
“We must be honest in continuing to strive to overcome problems of disparities between regions, fiscal capacity, integrity of regional heads and their apparatus, and also regulations that often become obstacles for regional head colleagues to innovate,” he added.
Bima Arya also reminded regional heads that there are currently challenges that are not easy at three levels. Both at the local, national, and global levels for regional heads.
“Challenges at the local level are demands from constituents, voters, people, and citizens. Challenges at the national level are to escort priority programmes and Asta Cita, because regional autonomy is emphasised in the seventh point of Asta Cita, as well as in our RPJMN 2025 and 2029. And the third is geopolitical challenges at the global level. Local, national, and also global,” said Bima Arya.
He said regional heads must ensure that autonomy can align with challenges at these three levels.
“It is not easy for regional heads today to navigate and ensure that regional autonomy aligns with those three challenges. But believe me, ladies and gentlemen, the regional heads whom we are very proud of, there is much inspiration today from fellow regional heads to overcome, face, and even conquer those challenges,” he concluded.
