Deputy Minister: B50 Biodiesel Programme to Accelerate National Energy Self-Sufficiency
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono said the implementation of the B50 biodiesel programme is a government effort to accelerate the realisation of energy self-sufficiency, as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of building national energy independence through domestic resources.
“The President wants everything to deliver the best fast result. The programmes are large, executed quickly, and produce tangible impact. The potential for food self-sufficiency must be turned into reality. The potential for energy self-sufficiency must also be turned into reality,” the Deputy Minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
He said the B50 biodiesel programme and Indonesia’s success in achieving food self-sufficiency are concrete examples of President Prabowo’s grand vision being implemented through a best fast result (BFR) approach — delivering the best outcomes within a short timeframe.
According to Sudaryono, President Prabowo has a grand vision of making Indonesia a self-reliant nation by harnessing all of its potential, from natural resources and agricultural land to national energy.
Under this policy, Indonesia no longer depends on imported diesel, as half of the country’s biodiesel needs are met from domestically produced palm oil.
With B50, Sudaryono continued, Indonesia no longer imports diesel fuel. Fifty per cent comes from domestic crude oil, and the other fifty per cent comes from palm oil produced by Indonesian farmers.
“This shows that an agrarian nation like Indonesia is capable of using its natural wealth and the hard work of its farmers to achieve energy self-sufficiency,” said Sudaryono.
According to him, this would not have been possible without Indonesia first strengthening its food sector.
The experience of the COVID-19 pandemic served as an important lesson that every nation prioritises its own people’s needs, which is why Indonesia must be able to meet its food requirements independently.
The Deputy Minister explained that the concept of best fast result is the President’s main approach in carrying out various national strategic programmes.
He said the government does not want the nation’s potential to remain mere discourse, but rather to be realised immediately through steps that are fast, measurable, and have a direct impact on the public.
“If a programme is large but takes too long to implement, its benefits are also felt too late. That is why the President always pushes for every policy to be executed quickly with the best results, so that the public immediately enjoys the benefits,” Sudaryono explained.
