Deputy Minister asks bioenergy to be developed for public benefit
Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Fauzan believes that bioenergy development needs to be placed within the framework of the national interest, through governance oriented towards benefits for the public.
In a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, the Deputy Minister highlighted the large potential of Indonesia’s resources to be developed into energy sources. The challenge of bioenergy development is considered to lie in the perspective and governance in optimising resources that have so far not been utilised to their full potential, including waste.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that the development of the energy sector requires business actors who have integrity and a commitment to the nation’s interests.
He considers downstreaming to be one of the important instruments to ensure that Indonesia’s resources can provide added value for the national economy.
In this context, universities have a strategic position in preparing human resources capable of meeting the needs of the continuously growing energy sector.
According to Deputy Minister Fauzan, student involvement in the bioenergy ecosystem is part of efforts to connect university talent with the needs of development and the business world.
“Universities do not only play a role in producing graduates, but also in ensuring that the knowledge and competencies possessed by students can be developed into real contributions for society and the economy,” he said.
Deputy Minister Fauzan confirmed that his ministry will continue to encourage the strengthening of a higher education ecosystem that is connected to national development needs, including through collaboration between universities and the business and industrial world.
This is in line with the aspirations of the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia to continue promoting energy self-sufficiency as part of the Asta Cita agenda to strengthen national independence, including through the development of new and renewable energy and reducing dependence on energy imports.
