The execution of Hotel Sultan Block 15 in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex was marred by clashes, with the crowd throwing stones and wood. Deputy Minister of State Secretariat (Wamensesneg) Bambang Eko Suhariyanto and former Kostrad Chief of Staff Kivlan Zen were injured.

An eyewitness from the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPK GBK), Bram, said that Wamensesneg Bambang was hit by a stone during the disturbance. Bambang was positioned near law enforcement officers at the time of the incident.

‘Yes, Mr Wamensesneg was hit by a stone and injured during the execution process at Hotel Sultan. Mr Bambang was close to the law enforcement officers. But while he was observing the situation, about to enter, suddenly a stone struck Mr Wamen,’ Bram said at the location on Thursday (18/6).

Bram noted that Bambang’s injury was on his left leg. He saw that Bambang had been bandaged because of the wound.

‘I’m not entirely sure if it was bleeding or swollen, but it looked quite serious, as he had to be bandaged. I briefly saw he was in pain, but because the crowd was large, I focused on other things as well,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Kivlan Zen, who was present as a legal representative for the heirs, was standing among the crowd opposing the execution. The clashes broke out after the Central Jakarta District Court bailiff read out the execution order.

Kivlan Zen said he was injured while attempting to negotiate with the police. He was cut by the barbed wire barrier, sustaining injuries to his hands.

‘So the police chief was in front, and the barbed wire was set up here. Because of the pushing from behind, I tried to move forward and got caught on the barbed wire,’ Zen said.

Zen stated that his injuries were not serious. He described the drops of blood spilled during the protest as a mark of the struggle.

‘No, it’s just a scratch, but it’s fine. So I’ve donated my blood for this, for the struggle, a blood donation,’ he added.

Additionally, 29 personnel were injured as a result of the clashes during the execution. The operation involved 3,161 joint personnel for security.

Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that 26 police officers suffered minor injuries from stones thrown by the crowd. The remaining injured were from the military and civilians.

‘In this case, 29 officers were injured,’ Budi said during the Hotel Sultan execution on Thursday (18/6).
