Deputy Minister Agus Jabo Urges Pringsewu Regency to Find Land for People's School

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono has urged Pringsewu Regency authorities to find land for the construction of a People’s School, a priority programme of President Prabowo Subianto. He made the statement during a meeting with Pringsewu Deputy Regent Umi Laila, Pringsewu Social Affairs Head Debi Hardian, and officials at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) headquarters in Central Jakarta today. “Find land that meets the requirements and regulations for submission. It will be a temporary use agreement,” said Agus Jabo. Agus Jabo outlined several requirements for the People’s School construction: a minimum land area of 6.8 hectares, clear ownership without disputes, adequate road access, location away from disaster-prone areas, and availability of electricity and clean water. He added that once the land passes assessment by the Ministry of Public Works (PU), construction will commence. The school’s operation will then be fully managed by the local government. “The People’s School will be handed over to the respective local governments,” he added. Agus Jabo stressed that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered each regency or city to have at least one People’s School, ensuring the free education programme reaches all children from low-income families and breaks the cycle of poverty in Indonesia. He also urged Pringsewu Regency to update and conduct ground checks on the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), emphasising its importance for ensuring government aid reaches the intended beneficiaries accurately. “The only way is to conduct ground checks. Identify those no longer eligible, remove tens of thousands from the list, and replace them with new recipients,” he explained. Meanwhile, Pringsewu Deputy Regent Umi Laila said her administration is struggling to find suitable land for the People’s School as most of Pringsewu’s land in Lampung is agricultural. She noted the regency had previously proposed land, but it failed assessment due to being paddy fields. “There was a 3-hectare plot, but it’s classified as LBS (Permanent Paddy Field), sir. So it can’t be used,” Umi said. However, Umi affirmed they would continue searching for appropriate land. “We will proceed with the land search,” she concluded.
