Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga Leads Spraying of Protocol Roads

The South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot Tangsel), in collaboration with a joint team, has conducted spraying operations on several protocol roads to control volcanic ash deposits on the road surfaces.

The spraying took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 8 September 2026, starting from 01:00 WIB until dawn.

South Tangerang Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga Ichsan personally led the field operations. The spraying was carried out to prevent volcanic ash from being blown back into the air by passing vehicles or wind.

“We are conducting this spraying to moisten the volcanic ash deposited on the road, ensuring it does not become airborne due to vehicles or wind and disturb community activities,” said Pilar.

Three corridors were targeted for the operation: first, the route from BSD Terminal–Jalan Ciater Raya–Bundaron Maruga and back to BSD Terminal; second, the Pamulang Square–Sasak stretch and vice versa; and third, the Rawa Buntu Station–Melati Mas area and vice versa.

Furthermore, Pilar stated that the spraying was intentionally scheduled from late night to the early morning to ensure the process was optimal and did not interfere with public mobility.

“We carry this out from night to early morning so that the handling process is more optimal and does not too much disrupt the mobility of residents. The hope is that before community activities become busy again in the morning, the ash deposits on the road segments can be controlled,” he said.

The activity involved several regional agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Service, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Department of Transportation, the Environmental Agency, and the Department of Water Resources, Highways and Construction (DSDABMBK). The operation was also supported by the South Tangerang Police, the 0506/Tangerang Military Command, and local developers.

The spraying is a follow-up to the emergency evaluation meeting held by the South Tangerang City Government. This step is part of the efforts to control the impact of volcanic ash distribution settling on various road segments.

Pilar added that the spraying will be conducted in stages, taking field conditions into account. The South Tangerang City Government will also evaluate other road corridors that require similar handling.
