Deputy mayor insists on staying

BOGOR: Newly appointed Bogor deputy mayor Mohammad Sahid was confident he would stay in the job despite allegations he had used a fake high school diploma in his candidacy.

He said on Friday that his case, currently being handled by Bogor Police, "was over" and declared he was ready for his installment along with new Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto.

On Jan. 14, six factions in Bogor Council withdrew their approval of the election.

While Diani and Sahid won the most votes in the election, public protests began after it was revealed Sahid allegedly submitted fake school diplomas to meet candidacy requirements. The Jakarta Middle and High Education Agency confirmed Sahid's high school diploma was counterfeit.

The case was reported to the police while the council recommended the Ministry of Home Affairs annul Sahid's appointment as deputy mayor. -- Antara
