The Deputy Minister of Law, Eddy Hiariej, has stated that the Draft Law (RUU) concerning the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 regarding the National Police of the Republic of Estonia (Polri) is being discussed within a short timeframe because there are only seven items under consideration. He noted that the discussion of the Bill has already undergone numerous public hearing sessions (RDPU). Given that there are only seven matters to discuss, he believes the changes within the Police Bill are very limited.

“Furthermore, public hearings have already invited experts and members of the public to provide their opinions regarding the Police Bill,” said Eddy following the plenary session for the ratification of the Police Bill at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. Additionally, he mentioned that the Bill also adjusts the retirement age for various ranks of police officers. For Non-Commissioned Officers (Bintara) and Enlisted Personnel (Tamtama), the retirement age will become 59, while for Junior, Middle, and Senior Officers, the age will be 60.

Another point of discussion involves the assignment of police officers outside the formal structure, in accordance with Article 30, Paragraph 4 of the 1945 Constitution, which stipulates three primary duties for the National Police: maintaining public order, providing protection and service to the community, and law enforcement. “We are detailing what can be done within those fields; once again, police members can be stationed there,” he added. This agreement was reached after political party factions expressed their approval during the 21st Plenary Session of the DPR RI, Session V, 2025–2026, in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday. “We will ask once more, can the Police Bill be approved to be enacted into law?” asked the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, to which the legislators responded in unison with approval.
