Deputy Labour Minister Afriansyah Noor mediated talks between Indomaret management and the SPN and SPMI trade unions. The meeting addressed the controversy over overtime pay for national holidays. The dialogue took place at the Ministry of Manpower office on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. The discussions resulted in key agreements concerning the rights of approximately 250,000 Indomaret employees nationwide. Afriansyah stressed that employees working on national holidays must receive overtime pay in accordance with existing regulations. Companies are also prohibited from implementing holiday substitution or shift swaps as compensation for work on public holidays. According to Afriansyah, ensuring workers’ overtime pay is essential for labour protection and legal certainty for both employees and employers. ‘Principally, this is a legal mandate. If you work on a national holiday, you must be paid overtime without exception,’ Afriansyah Noor stated in an official release on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The issue emerged after data surfaced showing 98 per cent of staff approved shift swap schemes. However, trade unions alleged coercion in the data collection process.
