Deputy Investment Minister Urges PLN to Provide 3-5 Gigawatts of Electricity for Batam
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Todotua Pasaribu has asked PT PLN (Persero) to promptly provide 3-5 gigawatts of electricity for Batam.
According to Todotua, Batam is set to experience significant investment growth, and PLN therefore needs to make preparations to support the electricity supply.
"I spoke with PLN as well about Batam. I told them that very soon there will be extraordinary growth there. I said PLN needs to get ready. Three to five gigawatts can be developed in Batam, which is why I told PLN to accelerate it," said Todotua in Jakarta on Thursday.
He noted that PLN already has plans to run a cable from Sumatra to supply electricity to Batam. According to him, one of the infrastructure issues that must be resolved in Batam is electricity availability. With adequate electricity supply, Todotua added, investors would no longer hesitate to invest in the area.
"Because one of Batam's problems is electricity, and this electricity must be competitively priced. I'm not talking about cheap electricity, but competitively priced electricity, so we can also mitigate risks," he said.
Previously, a number of Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) officials met with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss the acceleration of investment in Jakarta on Thursday (22/5).
BP Batam's focus was on accelerating investment and aligning strategic policies between the central and regional governments. Several initiatives were presented by BP Batam to foster a more conducive investment climate, including the implementation of an integrated land management system aimed at organising and accelerating efficient land management.
Additionally, BP Batam has simplified the licensing process by eliminating the requirement for planning approval (fatwa planologis) and integrating services between the Batam City Government and BP Batam.
