Deputy Investment Minister Speaks on Glass Lift Project Halted by Bali Governor

The permitting tangle surrounding the glass lift at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali, is far from over. The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, also known as the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), will conduct a field validation to verify the licensing compliance of the project — which was nearly complete before being suddenly halted by Bali Governor Wayan Koster.

Governor Koster had ordered the demolition of the glass lift at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, the construction of which had already reached 70 per cent progress. The Investment Ministry is gathering preliminary evidence regarding the permitting issues surrounding the project.

The Investment Ministry is verifying the permits for the Kelingking Beach glass lift project in Nusa Penida, Bali. The Deputy Investment Minister stated that the project was recorded as medium-low risk based on the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI) in the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. The regional government and Bali’s Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) are pushing for strict oversight to ensure investments do not violate spatial planning regulations.
