Deputy Interior Minister Urges Lampung to Become a Driver of the National Economy
Deputy Interior Minister (Wamendagri) Akhmad Wiyagus has emphasised the importance of synergy between the central and regional governments to promote Lampung Province as one of the main drivers of the national economy.
This was stated by Wiyagus at the Lampung Post Executive Forum held in Bandar Lampung on Tuesday (14/4).
According to Wiyagus, from the perspective of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Lampung holds a strategic position in supporting national development. He assessed that Lampung is not merely an administrative region but also an important node in the national development network.
“Lampung Province is not just an administrative area but an important part of the national development node,” he said.
He explained that Lampung’s strategic role is evident in its contribution to supporting the national food needs, including supplies for Jakarta and its surroundings. This potential is deemed necessary to be managed optimally so that it not only impacts the national scale but also improves the welfare of the local community.
On the other hand, Wiyagus noted that the economic growth trend in Lampung over the past few years shows positive development. However, he reminded that strengthening the regional economy must align with national policy directions.
“This strong development must start from alignment of directions; it must not differ,” he stressed.
He explained that regional development is part of the orchestration of national development that is interconnected. In this context, regional resilience becomes an important foundation that will strengthen overall national resilience.
To support this, Wiyagus emphasised the importance of improving the quality of human resources (HR). According to him, the vast natural resource potential will not provide optimal added value without being supported by competent and innovative HR, including in promoting the downstreaming of the region’s flagship commodities.
In addition to economic aspects, he also reminded the importance of maintaining integrity in regional government administration. This is considered crucial to creating a healthy and sustainable development climate, while avoiding potential legal issues that could hinder development progress.
Finally, Wiyagus invited all stakeholders to continue strengthening synergy and active collaboration between the central and regional governments as the key to accelerating development.
“I invite everyone to strengthen synergy between the centre and the regions actively, not waiting for each other, but utilising the existing support,” he concluded.
