Deputy Interior Minister Ribka Haluk is encouraging the East Java Provincial Government to strengthen the synchronisation of development planning between the provincial, regency, and city levels. Ribka warned that economic growth in East Java should not be uneven between the province and the regions below it.

“If the province experiences growth and quite rapid progress but it is not matched by the regencies or cities, this is also very concerning,” Ribka stated in her remarks on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

This was conveyed at the Musrembang RKPD for East Java Province 2027 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, today.

She also emphasised the importance of the governor’s role as the representative of the central government in the region in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 23 of 2014, to ensure that economic growth occurs evenly throughout East Java.

Ribka also appreciated the cohesiveness of the regency, city, and provincial government apparatus in East Java, as well as the continuously improving Human Development Index (IPM) achievements. However, she advised that the IPM improvement should be felt evenly down to the regency/city level to support Golden Indonesia 2045.

“If we talk about Golden Indonesia, one of them is how we want there to be a demographic bonus. I think East Java already has it. We just need to wait for the demographic bonus for other provinces,” she added.

In line with the slogan ‘Jatim Gerbang Baru Nusantara’, Ribka hopes that East Java can become the new economic engine, especially for the eastern Indonesia region. For that, development planning needs to be refined so that this mission can be carried out well.

Nevertheless, Ribka highlighted one homework that East Java still needs to complete.

“For East Java, we need to pay attention only to the unemployment rate issue. Meanwhile, economic growth, IPM, and others are all very good, even national programmes have been followed well,” Ribka stressed.
