Deputy Interior Minister Rebukes East Kalimantan Governor Over Rp 8.5 Billion Official Vehicle Purchase
JAKARTA — Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto has rebuked East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud over the procurement of an official vehicle worth Rp 8.5 billion.
Bima Arya emphasised that Mas’ud should avoid excessive spending and purchase only what is necessary.
“It should not be excessive; it should simply align with what is needed,” Bima Arya told Kompas.com on Thursday (26 February 2026).
Bima Arya stated that all procurement of goods and services by regional heads is governed by regulations. However, beyond regulatory compliance, he stressed the importance of the principle of appropriateness.
“Whether the purchase of the official vehicle aligns with actual need, whether it is reasonable given the current period of efficiency,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bima Arya noted that he had already communicated with Mas’ud regarding the vehicle purchase. He disclosed that Mas’ud has been using a personal vehicle for official purposes.
“I already communicated with the Governor yesterday; he explained that he has been using his personal vehicle for official activities in East Kalimantan,” Bima Arya explained.
“Yes, if there is a need to purchase an official vehicle, it should be reasonable,” added the former Bogor Mayor.
East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud affirmed that he has yet to use an official vehicle belonging to the East Kalimantan Provincial Government for operational purposes in the region.
Mas’ud stated that his activities in East Kalimantan continue to be supported by his personal vehicle, which he noted is no longer in prime condition.
