Jakarta - Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya has asked the KPK to be careful with the idea of limiting the tenure of political party general chairmen so that the realisation of the idea does not contradict the constitution.

“And be careful, do not let it contradict the Basic Law (UUD),” said Bima Arya to reporters on Friday (24/4/2026).

“So it must look at what the root problem of the party is,” said Bima, the Deputy General Chairman of PAN.

According to Bima, the root problem of corruption in the political party environment is the enforcement of anti-corruption values and the implementation of those values into party practices.

“I think the issue might not be in the tenure, the issue is more about accountability and the integrity system of political parties,” said Bima.

The KPK proposes limiting the tenure of political party general chairmen to a maximum of two management periods.

The proposal was submitted by the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate in its study on political party governance, which found that there is no integrated cadre development system standard yet.

“To ensure the running of cadre development, regulation of the leadership limit for the general chairman of the party is needed, maximum two periods of management tenure,” stated the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

“Encouraging political parties to implement the Constitutional Court Decision Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 on the minimum threshold for regional head elections through recruitment of regional head candidates based on cadre development,” it stated.

The KPK also proposes several additions to the revision of Article 29 of Law Number 2 of 2011 on Political Parties, namely regarding political party membership in Article 29 paragraph (1) letter a, adding that political party members consist of young, intermediate, and senior members.
