Deputy Interior Minister Emphasises Collaboration and Data Openness to Combat TB
Deputy Interior Minister Akhmad Wiyagus has emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration and data openness in addressing tuberculosis (TB) in regions. According to him, synergy between local governments and active involvement from health cadres is the primary asset to accelerate the handling of the disease.
This was conveyed during the Strengthening Commitment and Real Action for Tuberculosis Control event at the Bandar Lampung City Government Office on Tuesday (14/4). He explained that TB handling is a primary focus of the central government, targeted for completion within the next three years.
“The President has given special attention… this must be finished in three years,” said Wiyagus in a written statement on Tuesday (14/4).
He emphasised that this target requires an active field approach through early detection of at-risk communities.
Wiyagus assessed that the Bandar Lampung City Government (Pemkot) has shown good readiness in implementing the TB handling programme. However, he reminded them to maintain data transparency so that both central and local governments can determine accurate intervention steps.
“No need to be afraid to present the real data… there should be no hidden data,” he asserted.
He added that transparency is crucial for mapping the real distribution of cases without any information deliberately concealed by bureaucracy.
Wiyagus also urged local governments not to work in isolation and to involve all layers of society. Proactive steps are very much needed by reaching out directly to residents in their settlements rather than just waiting for patients to come to health facilities.
“We must be proactive, not just waiting, yes, at the community health centres, not just waiting at hospitals… here the importance of collaboration comes in,” he added.
A proactive approach is expected to accelerate the breaking of the transmission chain in community living environments.
Wiyagus further noted that resolving the TB issue is closely linked to public productivity and the quality of human resources.
The success of this handling is part of efforts to support the national development agenda towards the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
In addition to medical aspects, he also invited all parties to start eliminating negative stigma against TB sufferers in society. The disease is affirmed as a medical condition that can be completely cured through proper and routine treatment.
“Tuberculosis is not a disgrace to us. It can be treated,” Wiyagus concluded.
