Deputy Interior Minister and Tangerang Regent Discuss Jabodetabekpunjur Agglomeration
Tangerang (ANTARA) - Deputy Interior Minister (Wamendagri) Bima Arya, together with Tangerang Regent Moch Maesyal Rasyid, discussed the concept of agglomeration in the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, Cianjur (Jabodetabekpunjur) area as an effort to synchronise policies.
In this regard, Bima encouraged local governments to prioritise a sectoral approach in addressing various issues in each region.
“The agglomeration concept is a prospect for the future, with the caveat that it does not get bogged down in formal institutional matters,” he said after attending the Sustainable Aglo-City Summit 2026 Discussion in Tangerang on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, a sectoral approach needs to be implemented to provide more concrete solutions because the authorities, financing, and project owners are clear from the start.
“This institution, we talk about the institution, we talk about the authority, we talk about the management, it never ends, the floods come first, the traffic jams come first. That’s what happened in Jakarta,” he explained.
Bima said, for example, the waste problem is one of the priority issues that often troubles each regional head, from the many vendor offers with various technologies, the difficulty in finding land, to community rejections.
Currently, he said, the government is accelerating the electricity energy waste management programme (PSEL) and the Local Service Delivery Improvement Project (LSDP).
In addition, he also emphasised the importance of developing an integrated transportation system in the Jabodetabekpunjur area to improve connectivity between regions.
“Integrating the routes through where, how to connect them, where the connectivity is, how much the province’s portion, how much from the ministry, and how it is subsidised. This is a heavy challenge but, God willing, it can be resolved together,” he said.
According to him, the problems faced in all these regions also become an important part that must be discussed to find joint solutions.
“We in the regions must also be able to respond to this agglomeration programme. So the first thing is that we hold discussion meetings on governance and the function of serving the community between regions,” he stated.
Maesyal said that all regions included in Jabodetabekpunjur must be able to respond quickly through inter-sectoral collaboration.
Each adjacent Regency/City is asked to support each other for development in accordance with the established programmes.
“In line with the President’s policy, that equitable development must be carried out in all villages. The growth and development of the people’s economy must come from the villages, from bottom-up,” he said.
