Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Human Rights (Wamenham) Mugiyanto has urged the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to coordinate in order to address discrepancies in information regarding the initials of the perpetrators who threw acid at Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

“Regarding the differing information circulating between Polri and TNI, it is important to ensure strong coordination and data consistency among law enforcement agencies, to avoid causing confusion in the public sphere and to maintain the integrity of the case handling process,” Mugiyanto stated in his remarks on Thursday (19/3/2026).

He also encouraged the investigation to uncover the entire incident, not limited to the four suspects already detained, but to expose the masterminds behind the operation.

“To open the possibility of other perpetrators and to trace the roles of involved parties, including if there are parties that planned or controlled the incident,” he said.

The resolution of the case is hoped not only to address the existing issues but also to strengthen public trust.

“Hopefully the task force that has been formed can make this case increasingly clear without exception,” he said.

Mugiyanto emphasised that the protection of human rights defenders is a state obligation to guarantee a safe and dignified space for public participation.

“Every form of violence against human rights defenders not only impacts the individual but also has implications for the overall quality of democracy,” he asserted.

The Metro Jaya Police revealed two suspects captured on CCTV with initials BHC and MAK.

Meanwhile, the TNI Military Police stated there are four perpetrators: NDP, a captain, and three others with initials Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.

Andrie Yunus himself was doused with acid by unknown individuals in Central Jakarta on Thursday night (12/3/2026).

“Particularly on the right and left hands, face, chest, and eye area,” Dimas revealed to Kompas.com on Friday (13/3/2026).

Andrie was then rushed to hospital for medical treatment. From the examination results, he was found to have burns covering around 24 percent of his body.
