Deputy Human Rights Minister Educates Unmul Students to Make Human Rights the Heart of Civilisation

Samarinda (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto educated students of Universitas Mulawarman (Unmul) to commit to making human rights the lifeblood in building an advanced national civilisation. “Students have a very great responsibility and task in building the civilisation of the future, so human rights values must be made the heart of every such movement,” said Mugiyanto during a public lecture at the Unmul Samarinda Campus on Tuesday. He also emphasised that the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has placed human rights in a crucial position by making it the first aspiration within the eight-mission Asta Cita programme. “The establishment of the Ministry of Human Rights, now led by Mr Natalius Pigai together with me, is valid proof and an official vehicle for implementing the ideological vision of Pancasila and that democracy,” Mugiyanto stated before hundreds of students. During the public lecture, he then quoted a legendary line from the literary figure William Shakespeare, namely what’s in a name, to motivate all attending students to focus more on the essence of real action in society rather than merely contemplating a formal term. “This literary quote serves as inspiration to awaken our critical reasoning to see beyond written legal texts and to absorb the philosophical meaning of justice in the field,” he said. Through the academic dialogue space, the Ministry of Human Rights hopes that the younger generation in the East Kalimantan region can continue to be critical pioneers in overseeing the enforcement of human rights in order to realise a just and increasingly progressive social order. Rector of Universitas Mulawarman Prof Abdunnur appreciated the presence of the ministry delegation while affirming the commitment of the oldest campus in East Kalimantan to fully support the development of the Nusantara Capital City. “Understanding human rights is very crucial for students as agents of change, so its implementation in the field must be able to maintain a true balance between the fulfilment of rights and the responsibility of humanitarian obligations,” said Abdunnur. He expressed hope that the entire academic community of Universitas Mulawarman would not only focus solely on intellectual excellence, but continue to transform into a centre of civilisation that upholds the values of justice and environmental sustainability.
