Deputy Home Minister Wiyagus Stresses Village's Crucial Role in Strengthening National Resilience Amid Global Uncertainty
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Akhmad Wiyagus has called on regional administrations down to village governments to strengthen local resilience amidst global uncertainty through the implementation of the Asta Cita agenda and village-based development. He noted the need to carefully observe current geopolitical and economic dynamics as they could potentially affect national resilience down to the regional level.
"Of course, we expect all regional leaders, from the provincial, regency, to the village level, to truly follow and understand. Whether this has implications for or contributes to national resilience on a national scale, then regional resilience from the provincial, regency, down to the village level," Wiyagus said whilst opening the 2026 National Conference on Village Governance Development at the Konawe Regent’s Office in Southeast Sulawesi on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
He explained that the global condition, marked by geopolitical conflict and economic competition between nations, demands that every tier of government strengthen regional resilience according to their respective authorities. This includes the village level, given its strategic position as the foundation of national development.
Wiyagus asserted that all national development agendas outlined in the Asta Cita are closely linked to village governance. Therefore, the implementation of various priority government programmes must be able to reach and deliver tangible benefits to communities at the village level.
"Not one of the Asta Cita is unrelated to village governance. Why? Because everything starts from the village. For this reason, I remind you once again, the Asta Cita is not just to be memorised, not only to be understood, but it must truly be implemented, so that the outcome is felt by our people at the village level," he stressed.
According to Wiyagus, the success of village development is also determined by the regional government’s ability to optimise various national strategic programmes according to each region’s potential. This step is considered important to drive economic growth, strengthen food security, create jobs, and improve community welfare. On this occasion, he assessed the National Conference as an important forum for strengthening the capacity of village officials whilst simultaneously enhancing collaboration between village governments from various regions in Indonesia.
